The first day of the State 1A Girls Basketball Tournament went very well for the Milford High School Girls Basketball Team! On Wednesday, February 26, the Lady Tigers went up against the Wayne Badgers. They played very well! The final score was 44-37, Milford. Kinsey W. was the high scorer of this game with nine points! Jaycee R., Aliza W., and Kinley S. each scored eight points! Aliza W. had 14 rebounds, and Jaycee R. had ten rebounds! This was just the beginning of a very victorious State Tournament for the Lady Tigers!

On Thursday, the Tigers played Monument Valley in the quarterfinals. Milford never gave up and constantly battled. In the first quarter, the Lady Tigers were down with the score being 8-10. Then, in the second quarter, the Lady Tigers pulled ahead with the score 21-20. By the end of the third quarter, our basketball team was down again by one point. Their drive and teamwork made this game end in favor of the Lady Tigers; the final score was 49-46, Milford. Madysen G. was the lead scorer of this game with a total of 16 points! The next day they would go on to play in the semi-finals!

On Friday, the Tigers went up against the Panguitch Bobcats in the semi-finals! This was the fourth time these two teams would meet. The leading scorer for the MHS Girls Basketball Team for this game was Preslee B. with 15 points! Aliza W. led the team in rebounds with nine rebounds! Kinley S., Madysen G., and Preslee B. all had three steals from the Lady Bobcats! The final score was 50-40, Milford.

Saturday, February 29, 2020, is a day Milford High is never going to forget. The Lady Tiger Basketball Team brought home the very first state title in 1A Girls Basketball in school history! Rich was the other team battling for a state title, but the Tigers matched up with the Rebels from the beginning. Kinsey W. was the lead scorer of this game with 16 points! Aliza W. was a close second with 15 points! Every girl played extremely well individually and as a team. Both teams played hard, but fortunately, our Tigers took home the “W” with the ending score 48-42, Milford!

This 1A State Championship Title means so much to the whole community, but I know it is priceless to these State Champions. Winning a State Championship in basketball has been a dream of these girls since they were playing in elementary school! I am so grateful to have been able to watch their dream play out this season. Every person on that team has played such an important role in building the team that played and won in the championship. Five seniors ended their careers exactly the way everybody hopes theirs will end. However, not many are willing to put in the amount of work necessary to get there, but these girls were not afraid of hard work. They are all so driven, and they pushed each other everyday in order to become the strong individual players that came together to make one amazing STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM! There is no other team more deserving of such an amazing accomplishment! We are all so lucky to have a whole team full of amazing role models at MHS! Tiger, Tigers, are the BEST!

In addition, Aliza W., Preslee B., Kinsey W., and Jaycee R. were all picked to be on the Deseret News 1A All-Tournament Team. Jaycee R. also was picked MVP of 1A Girls Basketball for her amazing defense, especially in the championship game! Plus, Akaydeh L., Kinsey W., and Aliza W. made the Academic All-State Team. We are so proud of our Lady Tigers on all of their incredible accomplishments!
